Dental care, often overlooked but profoundly impactful on overall health, is increasingly recognized for its association with various systemic conditions. Oral infection drives systemic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, bacterial pneumonia, diabetes, and low birth weight. Dental decay can worsen pain, social isolation, and self-esteem, thus harming quality of life and mental health.

A survey conducted across shelters in Philadelphia, encompassing over 85 respondents, revealed that dental care emerged as the most pressing health need for 74% of individuals. In response to this pressing need, we have forged a partnership with Penn Dental Residents to provide oral health kits, administer head and neck exams, and facilitate referrals to Penn Dental Medicine and Philadelphia FIGHT. By addressing oral health as a priority, we aim to not only alleviate immediate discomfort but also contribute to the long-term well-being of those within our community.
